I contacted Winchester Wireless on April 5, 2010, to check about having their service installed in my home/office. Now before I get into my story I want to state that I have NO affiliation with Winchester Wireless or any of its owners or employees other than I am a customer of their service. I am merely trying to spread the word about this legitimate company that, so far, has provided me with everything that I was promised to me during the intitial conversation I had on the phone with Mr. Cook. You can contact Mr. Cook via e-mail HERE. You can also contact Winchester Wireless at 540-665-0800.

I live in the subdivision of Shawneeland which is situated in the far west of Frederick County, Virginia. Although Shawneeland is fairly populated and promises have been made to me by several high speed internet providers I have been relegated to using dial-up service for my internet connection for about six years. I have spoken to several different providers over the years but just never felt comfortable about the bad publicity that I read on the net regarding HughesNet or WildBlue satellite providers. During this time, about three and a half years ago I found a local service that promised me good, reliable internet service. I won't name them specifically here because there is at least one lawsuit pending against this company. However, I will point you to a site that will name them specifically. If you ever have any intention of using the other radio telemetry internet service provider in the Winchester, VA area I urge you to check out the website Wave2Not. Read the comments from past customers from the company discussed on this website. If you do decide to use the service from them, then I don't want to hear any whining about the crappy service and the broken promises!

I also checked into WildBlue.net. This service is not even available in this area at the writing of this webpage. And for good reason if you ask me. We have this service at my place of employment and I have to say it SUCKS too. HughesNet seems to have the same following, although it is available. Be forewarned, if you intend to use either of these satellite services you have to be vigilent on your usage and do not go over the allowed amount of download or they will shut you down and you will be without service until the time period of "lock-out" is over. Both of these services require a two-year contract. Even if the service sucks!

As stated in my original paragraph above, I contacted Winchester Wireless about three weeks ago. Mr. Cook, although not the owner, was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. He even stayed beyond closing time to accommodate me and answer all my concerns. Two days later the install crew arrived. They even arrived on time!! The installers introduced themselves as Ed and Eddie. (I appoligize if I mispell their names). These gentlemen were nothing but professional and helpful. Ed was more than willing to discuss all my concerns, especially due to my previous experience with the other slimy company in the Winchester area. Ed promised me that he wouldn't install the service if it wouldn't work. The install took about 45 minutes. I was up an running with both computers in a little over an hour. I performed a speed test from the website Speakeasy.net with my dialup service. The test resulted in a blinding download speed of 0.03 Mb/sec. I did the test again with the Winchester Wireless service and received an average of 0.80 Mb/sec. I was happy!
The next day I had to work, but I had my wife give the service a workout. She had some sluggish issues but was able to "surf the net" without any real problems. After I got home I continued to check out the service. I was having some "dropping out" issues, but figured it was due to the weather. It was very windy and calling for rain that evening. Just when I started to consider calling Winchester Wireless there was a knock on the door. Amazingly it was the installers, Ed and Eddie. They informed me that the office had been tracking my service overnight and felt that I was not getting the service I should be getting. Well, I was Amazed!! How can you ask for better service than that??
The installers raised my antennae about six more feet and dialed in the signal. We checked the service again with the Speakeasy website and was getting an average of 1.30 Mb/sec !!! I was totally sold on the service and the company!! The signal was still not what was advertised on the Winchester Wireless website but for $39.99 per month and no contract who the hell cares!! It is still more than I have gotten from any other service.

UPDATE #1 (4/22/10)
Ok. So it has been three weeks since the install. Friends, I cannot be happier with my Winchester Wireless service. I have since bought a third computer. My family is able to be online with all three computers at the same time with very minimal drag on the speed. My wife has finally gotten me on Facebook and the whole family can now play online games and surf the net at the same time!! Windows upgrades that used to take me 10-12+ hours now takes me only minutes!! To date I would have to suggest any resident in or around the Winchester, VA, area to contact Winchester Wireless and see if they can provide you with service.

All I ask in return for my time spent telling my story is to reference me when you call to order service.
My name is Marty Feltner. Tell them that you read my blog and want the same service I got! Sure, I will get the credit for you signing up and maybe it will help me with paying my bill, but it won't cost you anything and I assure you that you will be satisfied with the service you receive. If you have any other questions about this company feel free to e-mail me at the address below and I will be happy to update you as to my service and if it is still working as promised.

 Send me E-MAIL
Return to The Main Page
Go to The Gun Page
Go to My Picture Album
Go to The Holster Page
